about paul harrison...

Paul Harrison flunked his A-levels due to learning guitar instead - a move which doomed him to ten years of dead-end jobs before he went pro as a guitar teacher.

He played in an assortment of bands and duos. Many of these were rubbish, however blues rock outfit Catfish proved particularly enjoyable, as did roots blues duo Rezzzonator (who demanded at least three Z's on the billing but rarely got them) with harmonica player Phil Saunders. The Rain Dogs, with Jamie Barnes, were also fun.

Fingerstyle guitar and its eclectic possibilities for wierdness, especially with a few electronic augmentations, beckoned after he saw a Pierre Bensusan gig, and a years-long obsession with the blues faded to incorporate pretty much any music that sounds honest.

Last year he began performing solo around Cumbria with his own brand of psychadelic folk-blues, playing souped-up and occasionally FX mangled versions of blues and folk tunes, having been inspired once more, this time by the tremendous talent that is Kirk McElhinney.

He soon found a voice as a composer and songwriter, influences ranging from Nick Drake, John Martyn, John Renbourn, Wizz Jones, Tommy Emmanuel and Pierre Bensusan to Led Zeppelin, Gorrillaz, Trilok Gurtu and Nick Harper, and of course many more.

He plays regular pub gigs and the odd folk club and festival, including the odd support gig for quite famous people including Po Girl and one of his heroes, Wizz Jones.

He lives in the Lake District with the love of his life, Linnhe, and when not abusing an innocent guitar can be found howling at the moon dressed as a transvestite dalek (on a tuesday).
